AA advises motorists to carry spare car bulbs

The AA is advising motorists to carry spare car bulbs with them while on journeys this winter.
It said that, last year, there were 127,199 call-outs due to problems with car lights and said that some of these could have been prevented if the drivers had checked their lights before setting off or had some spare car bulbs with them.
The AA said that vehicles’ handbooks will inform drivers of how to replace most car bulbs if and when required.
Another piece of advice that the AA gave to motorists was to clean all car lights at least once a week – including brake and number plate lights.
Windscreen wiper blades should also be checked as they were the cause of 1,200 AA call-outs last winter.
Wiper blades should be replaced at least every two years as new blades clear the windscreen more effectively, reducing the dazzling effect of the sun.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists recently advised motorists to clean their windscreens regularly, as grime on the glass is a major cause of glare.
