Motorists should check their car bulbs are functioning before hitting the roads this winter and moneysupermarket.com has reminded them to turn on their parking and hazard car lights if they break down.
The price comparison website said that, if motorists experience a problem with their cars when driving, they should pull over as far as possible into to the hard shoulder or side of the road and ask passengers to exit the vehicle by the left-hand doors only.
Taking a fully-charged mobile phone on all winter journeys will mean that motorists can contact their breakdown service more quickly if they have to stop driving.
Before setting off on the roads when the weather is bad, motorists should consider whether their journey is really essential, according to the website.
Last week the Northamptonshire Casualty Reduction Partnership published a pamphlet advising motorists to check their car bulbs and windscreen wiper blades before setting off on the roads in the winter weather.
