Drivers ‘should ensure lights are working right this winter’

Motorists should look to ensure that their lights and indicators are working properly before hitting the roads this winter, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has said.
The organisation also recommended that people make sure light lenses are clean and free of snow and ice.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger had some more advice for drivers, saying that too many motorists do not have the right skills to cope with icy and snow conditions.
"Our message to drivers is to assess the type of road you’re driving on. Going too fast is dangerous, but so too is going too slowly," he added.
The IAM also pointed out that some local authorities have not gritted some rural and minor roads, which could cause problems for some.
In other recent motoring advice, the body said that as conditions improve, foglights should only be on if necessary as they can dazzle other drivers on the road.
