Most motorists 'would not admit to damaging a parked vehicle'

Posted by Tom Benjamin.

The majority of motorists would not confess if they caused damage to a parked car, such as cracking a car light, according to What Car? magazine.

A survey by Whatcar.com found that just 37 per cent of the motorists quizzed said that they would definitely confess to damaging a parked car.

Almost 20 per cent said they would drive away quickly without owning up and 45 per cent said it depends how much damage they had caused.

Steve Fowler, editor of What Car?, said he was "shocked" by some drivers lack of honesty.

"Repairing some parking dings can run into hundreds of pounds especially with more cars having painted bumpers and parking sensors. However, there are some clever repair systems that can cover up scrapes for a fraction of that cost," he added.

The Department for Transport recently announced that street lighting is to be improved in certain areas of the country, which will increase the visibility of parked cars and could reduce the risk of damage to these vehicles.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19531874-ADNFCR
