Motorists advised to 'check car lights' before winter driving

Posted by Richard Sinclair

All car lights should be checked before setting off on a journey this winter, Continental Tyres has advised.

The tyre producer warned motorists to make a number of basic checks before driving in the difficult conditions caused by the winter weather.

Tim Bailey, safety expert at Continental Tyres, said: "Check your lights, ensure your windscreen and windows are clear, that your brakes are in good condition, your tyres have a minimum of 3mm of tread and increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front."

Continental Tyres recently polled 4,000 drivers and found that one in three admitted they will drive without being able to see out of their windscreens properly.

The company found that most motorists said they are ‘in too much of a rush’ to clear their windscreens fully of ice and snow before heading out on the roads.

Earlier this week mytyres.co.uk told motorists that they should ensure that their tyres are inflated to the pressure recommended by the manufacturer and, under no circumstance, should they reduce these pressures for driving in snow.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19539850-ADNFCR

Yeah you’re right…Before I drive off and after pulling in at night I check all components even if I think there is nothing wrong with my car, I don’t want horrible surprises in the middle of the road. Particularly my automotive lights, they may be misaligned from driving through potholes. I check also the taillights, brakes and the tires. I make sure that they are still in good condition. I do not overrate my car. It’s my habit to inspect my car regularly.
