Drivers should 'check for broken car lights or indicators'

Before setting off on a journey this week, drivers should check they do not have any broken car lights and indicators, traffic officers in the West Midlands have warned.

Officers advised motorists to make a quick two-minute check of their vehicles before driving in snow or ice, the Birmingham Mail reports.

As well as inspecting car lights, the check also includes looking for worn or under inflated tyres, grimy reflectors, a lack of anti-freeze in the wiper mix and a lack of anti-freeze in the cooling system.

Speaking to the newspaper, chief inspector Mark Payne, of the West Midlands Police, said that the best advice he could give was for motorists not to drive when weather conditions are bad.

"If you do have to go out because your journey is essential listen to the radio or check the websites of the major car breakdown services," he added.

A recent poll of 4,000 drivers by Continental Tyres found that one in three admitted they will drive without being able to see out of their windscreens properly.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19539901-ADNFCR
