Beware of windscreen wiper blades causing fuses to blow, motorists warned

Motorists have blown their vehicles’ fuses by turning on their car windscreen wiper blades when they are frozen to the glass, a vehicle recovery firm has said.

D & C Fry have been busy over the past few weeks rescuing people across North Wiltshire, this is Wiltshire reports.

Manager Susan Gwillym said most of the company’s call outs were made by people who were unable to get their car out of the drive.

"We’ve had a lot of people with flat batteries, or their keys are stuck in the car or the handbrake cable has frozen," she said.

Ms Gwillym went on to say that others have been pouring hot water on their cars in the hope of unfreezing their car doors, only for the water to go into the locks and freeze again.

Last week, the RAC warned motorists that the cold weather can increase the number of vehicle breakdowns as extra pressure put on electrical systems through the increased use of heater fans and car bulbs can cause battery failure.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19547384-ADNFCR
