Bad weather causes car damage, such as cracked car lights, and increases insurance disputes

Recent bad weather has caused an increase in car damage, such as cracked car lights, but it has also lead to a rise in the number of disputes between motorists and car insurance companies over the value of vehicles, it has been revealed.

Used Car Expert magazine’s website UsedCarExpert.co.uk has received a number of enquires relating to these disputes and found many of these arise over vehicles that are written off because someone else collided with them while they were parked.

Matt Tumbridge, editor of the magazine, said: "In several cases the person responsible left no contact details so the victim is not only having to argue over the value of the car but also losing their no claims bonus and facing the prospect of seeing their premium rise."

He went on to say that insurers use a trade publication to value the car and offer motorists as little as they can.

What Car? magazine recently conducted a survey and found that just 37 per cent of motorists would always stop and leave their details if they caused damage to another vehicle.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19549805-ADNFCR
