Online bookings jump 700% as snow-stranded repair cars
Motorists are opting to book their vehicles in for car repairs when working from home during the snowy weather, figures show.
Online bookings for windscreen replacement with Auto Windscreens have increased by 700 per cent since the onset of the snow – and some drivers may also have chosen to have other car repairs done too, such as replacing car bulbs or windscreen wiper blades.
Nigel Davies, sales and marketing director at the glazing services company, suggested that the jump in online bookings could be due to a higher number of people working at home.
He said: "Despite our call centre being fully manned during the arctic weather conditions, online bookings for glass repair and replacement have gone through the roof.
"Our research has shown that people choosing to work remotely during this terrible weather are using the opportunity, while being online, to visit Auto Windscreens’ website and book a job through it."
Many drivers are also in need of tyre replacement during the bad weather, research by vehicle repair firm Kwik-Fit has shown.
Figures indicate that one in five British drivers have under-inflated tyres, while one in ten have tread depths below the legal requirement of 1.6mm.
