Winter roads can cause damage to wiper blades

Winter roads can cause damage to windscreens, wiper blades and bodywork, according to Skoda, and driving with this damaged is not only dangerous but can be illegal.
Participating Skoda retailers are offering motorists free winter health checks so that they can be safe in the knowledge that their vehicles do not have any faults that could make driving in wintry conditions any more difficult.
"They can undertake all these checks within around 20 minutes and could help prevent drivers being stuck on the side of the road for hours this winter, or worse, involved in an accident," said John Bower, head of Skoda Aftersales.
The car checks include an inspection of wiper blades to check that thay are not damaged, as they can rip if they stick to an icy windscreen.
Earlier this month, the Institute of Advanced Motorists advised drivers that they should replace their windscreen wiper blades at least once a year, and more often if they are worn.
