The Volkswagen Golf, with halogen clear car headlight bulbs, has been named the safest car of 2009 by EuroNCAP.
Back in 2008, the Golf had already attained a five-star EuroNCAP rating but, at this time, the testing programme only assessed frontal crashes, side crashes and pedestrian protection.
During re-testing under new, stricter criteria, at the beginning of last year the Golf performed well in all four categories: occupant protection of adults, protection of children, pedestrian protection and supporting safety and driver assistance systems.
A total of 33 cars were tested last year but the Golf, with a score of 103 points, was found to be the safest.
The Golf has many standard safety features including ESP with counter-steer assist, ABS with braking assistance and anti-slip regulation.
It also has range adjustable halogen car lights and dusk sensors and is available with front fog car lights with static cornering and chrome surrounds.
