Garages not living up to expectations, survey shows

Many people up and down the UK are unhappy with the service offered by their local garage, which may include those getting their windscreen wiper blades replaced.

Almost half (45 per cent) of those questioned by Motor Codes were dissatisfied with the service, while it was also revealed that youngsters feel they have been ripped off.

Forty-one per cent of those surveyed in the 16 to 24 age bracket said they had been overcharged by between £51 and £150, compared to 31 per cent of 25 to 35 year olds.

Chris Mason, Motor Codes director, said: "Despite there being many very good UK garages, the publics bad experiences with some has brought about a lack of trust."

He added that the service and repair sectors in particular tend to have a bad reputation when it comes to what they charge their customers.

Motor Codes revealed last month that the number of calls to its helpline had levelled-off, suggesting standards may be improving.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19612419-ADNFCR
