Clear wiper blades of snow and ice before driving, police warn motorists

Following the recent snowfall, North Yorkshire Police are warning motorists to clear their windscreen wiper blades of snow and ice before setting off on journeys.
The police had to deal with at least 50 minor collisions in North Yorkshire yesterday (February 22nd), according to the York Press.
Council chiefs told the newspaper that a delivery of gritting supplies was received last week and 500 tonnes are currently available for the region.
Regardless of this, a police spokesman is advising motorists to stay off of the roads unless their journeys are "absolutely necessary".
They said that those who cannot avoid setting out on the roads should make sure the pressure and tread of their tyres are at suitable levels and to keep their car lights clean, as well as to check they all work.
Foglights should only be used if visibility is less than 100m, he advised.
The Met Office is predicting over night temperatures in the region to drop as low as minus three degrees celsius, so roads could well be dangerous and icy again tomorrow morning.
