Another speed should be added to windscreen wiper blade controls, a Malaysian motorist has claimed.

Writing in the New Straits Times, Mr V Thomas of Sungai Buloh in Malaysia explained that, in areas where there are high levels of annual rainfall, which could include the UK, visibility can be reduced so greater care is needed.

He wrote that, currently, vehicles only have three windscreen wiper blade speeds and opined that a fourth speed should be added between the slow and medium settings.

"Correct wiper speed levels mean fewer problems for the driver, less damage to the wipers and windscreen and greater visibility and safety for motorists, especially at night or in poorly-lit conditions," Mr Thomas claimed.

JSF Driving School recently suggested that wiper blades work more efficiently on clean glass so advised motorists to use inexpensive windscreen cleaner to help remove dirt and grime.

The school also advised replacing wiper blades every sixth months, or sooner if they are worn.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19648534-ADNFCR
