The car lights of electric vehicles are set to be seen increasingly frequently on the UKs roads, as Ford has committed to introducing five full-electric and hybrid models in Europe by 2013.

As part of its global electric vehicles plan, two zero-emission full battery-electric vehicles are to be launched – the Transit Connect Electric light commercial vehicle and the Ford Focus Electric.

Two next-generation petrol hybrid-electric vehicles and a plug-in hybrid are to be introduced in 2013.

"We recognise that one technology does not work for all our customers," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president of global product development at Ford.

"Our electrification strategy and plans include hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles to best meet our global customers needs," he added.

Last month, Ford revealed that it had prevented 23,000 damaged car bumpers from entering landfill sites by recycling them into other plastic components, which could include car light casings.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19651374-ADNFCR
