Could cheap car bulb sales rise in line with fuel duty?

An increase in fuel duty is set to come into force on April 1st, which could lead motorists to look to save money by getting the best deal on car bulbs.

Chancellor Alistair Darling plans to increase fuel duty by 2.5 pence per litre next month, which could mean the end of the road for many cash-strapped UK hauliers, according to the Road Haulage Association (RHA).

Geoff Dunning, chief executive at RHA, said that diesel is the commodity on which the haulage industry is totally reliant.

"We are already paying fuel duty rates that are up to six times higher than our European counterparts," he claimed.

Mr Dunning went on to say that, if the chancellor goes ahead with increase, road transport operators will be paying an extra of around £1,100 each year in fuel duty alone.

"Thats on top of the price of the fuel itself," he added.

According to petrolprices.com, fuel tax in the UK has risen steadily over the last 15 years, but increased rapidly between 1993 and 1999, with duties escalating to three per cent above the rate of inflation.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19653455-ADNFCR
