Car lights have been fitted in Volvos first UK pusher-axle tridem 8×4 and it is now at work as part of Wiltshire-based Hills Waste Solutions fleet of waste disposal vehicles.
The new design addresses a problem commonly experienced by traditional 8×4 rear-end loaders – rear axle overloading.
Volvos new FM tridem features a rear bogie with a capacity of 24-tonnes and a nine-tonne front axle.
It has disc brakes and an onboard weighing system, allowing the driver to ensure the vehicle is not overloaded.
Peter Moore, transport operations manager at Hills Waste Solutions, said: "When Volvo offered us the first tridem axle arrangement to be installed in an FM we were keen to give it a go."
He went on to say that the new configuration will provide better fuel economy and payload than the companys other vehicles.
Earlier this month, Volvos all-new S60, which has LED car lights, made its international debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
