McLaren Automotive has announced details of a vehicle that it hopes will be the worlds best high-performance sports car – the MP4-12C, which has Bi-xenon car headlight bulbs.

The shape of the LED car lights used in the headlamps is inspired by the McLaren logo and the light from these illuminates the three "gills" above.

A large windscreen with low cowl is another feature of the vehicles face and provides great forward visibility.

In wet weather, the windscreen is swept by a single weight-saving pantograph wiper blade, as was that of the McLaren F1.

Frank Stephenson, design director at McLaren, said: "The 12C does not reproduce the F1 design, but it unashamedly builds on its functionally-driven engineering and design highlights."

"Any similarities are there for a reason," he added.

Clusters of LED car light bulbs are also used in the rear of the 12C but are only visible when illuminated, as they are hidden behind horizontal black bars.

Another vehicle LED car lights made its international debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month – Volvos all-new S60.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19677554-ADNFCR
