Truck drivers are neglecting basic safety
Too many truck drivers are risking their lives by driving without a seatbelt, research from the CEESAR institute has found.
While seatbelt use has been growing steadily among drivers in Europe, fewer than half of all truck drivers use one, despite the fact that they are at particularly high risk in road traffic.
Alongside other basic safety features like car headlight bulbs, safety belts are one of the greatest tools in preventing injury in the event of an accident, according to Volvo Trucks traffic and product safety director Carl-Johan Almqvist.
"We human beings quite simply have no speed sensors. We can read the speed on a gauge, but we have no means of registering speed within our own bodies," he added.
"This contrasts with our feeling for height as you would never jump from a height of four metres and just hope for the best."
Volvo was the first brand to use safety belts, introducing them to models in 1949.

Not only is it unsafe to wear your seat belt, but in the case of an accident your coverage and compensation could be affected.
