Car lights help Ford drivers detect vehicles hidden in blind spot

LED car light bulbs are fitted in the wing mirrors of the Ford S-Max and Galaxy to help to warn drivers when there are vehicles hidden in their blind spots.
Fords Blind Spot Information System detects vehicles that are in the blind spot area and an LED car bulb illuminates in the wing mirror warning of the car, motorbike or lorrys presence.
Dr Torsten Wey, Fords driver assistance technologies supervisor, said that busy traffic can make it particularly easy for a driver to lose sight of a vehicle as it enters their blind spot.
"With its distinctive warning light, this system helps drivers to think twice before switching lanes or changing direction without checking their blind spot, hopefully preventing a collision or a near miss," he added.
Fords Galaxy and all-new S-Max, which has LED car bulbs, both premiered at the Brussels Motor Show in January.
The S-Max was one of the first models to offer the 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost SCTi engine.
