LED car headlight bulbs will become more popular

LED car headlight bulbs can be used in the fight against carbon emissions, according to one commentator, who believes that the technology is around ten times more efficient than incandescent bulbs.

In an article for the Independent, James Dyson – inventor of the legendary dual cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner – said that it is up to manufacturers and scientists to make more efficient appliances, like LEDs, more freely available to people.

LEDs are already widely used in traffic lights and have begun to see use as car lights, he added – although the technology is not without its drawbacks.

"Currently, LEDs arent as bright as other bulbs, they create more heat and are still quite expensive," Mr Dyson wrote in his article.

"But, given time, they will become a more popular option … Theyre more reliable than any other light, they last longer and they use less energy."

The latest offering from Mercedes-Benz, the CLS Shooting Break Concept, features car bulbs made up of 71 individual LEDs, it has been revealed.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19730680-ADNFCR
