Honda Insight beats official economy figure

Posted by Fiona Birkwood

Hondas Insight recorded an average of 63.6 mpg in the car companys mileage challenge – a performance that beats the official economy figure of 61.4 mpg.

Six high mileage company car drivers were involved in the challenge, which saw them swap their existing cars for a Honda Insight for a month.

The hybrid vehicle comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, a CD audio system and climate control air conditioning as standard but is also available with front car lights that turn on automatically when visibility is low.

Ray Hadlington, of energy company E.ON, usually drives a Vauxhall Zafira Diesel, but improved his typical fuel economy by over 10 mpg when he switched to an Insight.

This saved him almost £50 in fuel bills over the month-long mileage challenge.

"Driving the Honda Insight was really no different from driving my Zafira, but the dashboard graphics reminded me to ease off the accelerator a little more than usual," said Mr Hadlington.

He went on to say that the benefit-in-kind cost saving was hard for him to ignore.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19778177-ADNFCR
