ESS 3X number plate sells for £6,520

An anonymous businessman is now driving the streets of the UK with the personalised registration number ESS 3X between his car lights, having paid out £6,520 for it.
The Essex-based man, who did not wish to be named, told the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) that he would have been willing to pay a further £15,000 in order to get his hands on what he termed his "perfect plate".
Speaking from his Chelmsford home, the owner of the ESS 3X plate said: "Im absolutely delighted. Ive bought numerous registrations from the DVLA over the years and I expected to pay a lot more than £6,520for this one."
The plate that fetched the most money on the first day of the three-day auction, which started yesterday (June 2nd), was 1 EPS, selling for just short of £20,000.
Some 1,500 registrations went on sale including, ALS 91, which had a reserve of £1,900, and BOO7 HAM, which had a reserve of £900.
