Classic MGB Tourer fetches £141K at auction

A 1964 version of the MGB Tourer with front fog lights has claimed supercar status after being sold at auction for £141,922.

The vehicle was bought by a bidder at the Historics at Brooklands event and is one of 387,000 MGB Tourers produced in the 18 years from 1962, with the sale price 167 times greater than its cost at the time of manufacture.

Historics auction director Edward Bridger-Stille revealed that the car was "sympathetically restored with meticulous attention to detail and no expense spared", before returning to the public gaze and being bought at the Historics auction by an enthusiast.

"The buzz in the auction hall when this car was offered was astounding, but nothing compared with the scale of the bidding, which went sky high," he said.

Historics at Brooklands next auction is set for September 25th, with many classic cars already consigned and further entries invited before the closing date.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19835601-ADNFCR
