Vauxhall Ampera E-REV to embark on UK road trip

Posted by Fiona Birkwood

Vauxhalls Ampera E-REV, or extended-range electric vehicle, is set to undertake the longest journey by an electric car on British roads later this month.

On June 22nd, the prototype Ampera will be driven in relay by a team of motorists from Vauxhalls home in Luton, Bedfordshire, to its passenger car plant in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

The journey totals more than 170 miles but the first leg will be completed by Duncan Aldred, Vauxhalls managing director.

"In the last century, Vauxhall has pioneered innovation and technology for mainstream car buyers and this commitment will continue with the Ampera. Were truly energising the future for British motorists," said Mr Aldred.

The vehicle, which will go on sale in the UK in 2012, features boomerang-like front car lights which integrate with its fog lamps.

For the first 40 miles of the trip, the car will be powered by electricity that is stored in a 16kWh lithium-ion battery, meaning it will emit zero tailpipe emissions.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19838546-ADNFCR
