Car lights systems to be recognised by new reward programme?

Posted by Fiona Birkwood

Euro NCAP has announced it has created an advanced reward system that recognises new and emerging safety technologies, which could include adaptive car lights.

The car safety assessor already ranks vehicles using a star rating scheme, but the new advanced rewards system will complement this by recognising manufacturers who promote cutting-edge safety technologies.

These rewards could act as an incentive to manufacturers to fit important safety equipment in their vehicles as standard, making them available to all.

Dr Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general of Euro NCAP, said: “With these rewards Euro NCAP will add a new dimension to its mission.”

“Collectively we can make another step forward in effectively reducing traffic fatalities and injuries on European roads,” he added.

Last month, Alfa Romeos Giulietta, which has LED car bulbs and self-aligning head restraints, was awarded a Euro NCAP five-star rating having achieved an overall score of 87 points out of 100.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19887903-ADNFCR
