Motorists to receive £5k towards buying ultra-low carbon car
Motorists who decide to buy an ultra-low carbon car from January 2011 will receive up to ££5,000 towards its purchase, the government has announced.
This decision comes before the government has even completed its spending review, highlighting the importance that is being placed on more environmentally-friendly vehicles.
“The coalition government is absolutely committed to low carbon growth, tackling climate change and making our energy supply more secure,” said transport secretary Philip Hammond.
He added that the scheme will ensure the UK is a “world leader in low emission vehicles”.
Mr Hammond went on to say that the £5,000 incentive scheme will run until at least 2012, when it will be reviewed and the level will be set for subsequent years.
Renault has welcomed the move, with its new managing director Thierry Sybord stating that the low cost of electric vehicles will now be as appealing as their environmental benefits.
Will you be more likely to buy an electric car when the governments new incentive is introduced?
