Nissans zero-emission vehicle – the Leaf – has been successful in the 2010 Auto Express New Car Awards, regardless of the fact that it is yet to go on sale in the UK.
The vehicle picked up the coveted Special Award at the ceremony, which is given in recognition of the best new innovation in the motor industry.
Auto Express judges were unanimous in choosing the Leaf to win the title.
“Having tried the Leaf we know that its rather good. The best news of all though is that Nissan plans to build the groundbreaking model right here in Britain,” they said.
The Leaf is due to hit showrooms next March, which will make it the first mainstream all-electric family vehicle on sale in the UK.
Earlier in the week, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd launched a new range of clothing – a series of exclusive designer T-shirts.
The tops are available in both mens and womens sizes and come in two different colours, costing £15 each.
