Majority of drivers do not trust their sat-navs

Over 87 per cent of British motorists do not trust their satellite navigation (sat-nav) systems to get them to their chosen destinations, a survey has revealed.
Research conducted by Manheim Auctions found that more than a third of drivers have got lost while following the instructions read out by their sat-navs.
Some 15 per cent of these ended up missing important events, such as job interviews, first dates or weddings as a result of the misguided information.
Craig Mailey, client services and marketing director at Manheim Auctions, said that the sat-nav has quickly become the most popular form of in-car navigation advice.
“However, its always wise to exercise a degree of caution when using one and not follow it blindly,” he added.
Earlier in the year, What Car? magazine reviewed Tom Toms latest offering – the Go Live 1000 portable sat-nav system.
The magazine claimed that the device is easier to fix to the windscreen of a vehicle than its predecessors.
Do you trust your sat-nav?

I use a portable one, Garmin and it hasn’t gotten me lost yet. For an important event like a job interview, common sense would dictate you ALSO look on Mapquest or some similar site in addition to GPS. Plus view the turn by turn directions on the nav and see if it matches the Mapquest results. Always leave early in case you get lost; it happens.
