Volkswagen has manufactured its 100,000th Scirocco compact sports coupe.
Currently, the third generation of the model is being produced at the VW Autoeuropa – Automoveis Ltda plant in Portugal.
Speaking after the completion of the 100,000th unit, Andreas Hinrichs, plant manager at Autoeuropa, said: "The Scirocco is one of the most important cars that we produce. For myself personally, it was a moving moment."
The celebrated model is a Scirocco R 2.0-litre TSI, in rising blue metallic with a titan black interior.
It boasts a radio navigation system, park pilot and a tilting sunroof.
Some 3,000 people are employed by the plant in southern Portugal, where the Volkswagen Eos and the new Sharan are also manufactured.
Earlier this month, the Volkswagen Touran compact MPV went on sale in the UK, with prices starting from £17,585 RRP on-the-road.
First deliveries of the vehicle are set to take place on September 22nd.
