Motorists given tips on fuel efficiency

Posted by Tom Benjamin

Motorists have been advised on the many ways in which they can improve the fuel efficiency of their vehicles.

The Fuelcard Company said that people can cut their fuel costs by driving in a soft manner, changing gears smoothly and avoiding stopping and starting.

"Simply take your time and slow down a little," said Colin Peters, head of marketing at the Fuelcard Company.

"Constantly braking too hard, speeding up to overtake at every opportunity and driving at a fast pace means you're using up more fuel than is necessary," he added.

The firm recommended that drivers check their tyre pressures are correct and close their windows as these both have an impact on how hard the engine has to work and, therefore, how much fuel is used.

Earlier this month, Kwik-Fit research revealed that one in five motorists do not bother doing vehicle checks, such as testing tyre pressures, before going on long journeys.
