Kia Sportage gains German environmental approval

Kia's Sportage has gained an environmental certificate from the German certification agency TUV Nord.

The environmental aspects of the vehicle, including its production and emissions, underwent a rigorous assessment.

When it passed all of the criteria, TUV Nord certified that the stylish new crossover complies with the strict environmental standards of the ISO 14040 life cycle assessment.

"The eco-balance certificate for the new Kia Sportage is further proof of Kia Motor's successful environmental strategy," said Sun-Young Kim, president of Kia Motors Europe.

This vehicle is very light in weight compared to its predecessors, despite being greater in length.

At 4.44 metres, which is 9cm longer than the previous model, its weight has been reduced by between 87 and 160 kg depending on specification.

Next month, Nissan is to reveal its latest environmentally-friendly concept vehicle at the Paris Motor Show 2010.

Called the Townpod, the vehicle produces zero emissions and, therefore, goes towards the UK's attempts to reduce its carbon footprint. ADNFCR-2370-ID-800062833-ADNFCR
