Volkswagen's new Amarok has been named the International Pick-up of the Year 2011.

This accolade, awarded for the first time this year, was judged by the panel that decides the International Van of the Year awards.

"The new Volkswagen Amarok distinguishes itself by fantastic driving qualities, both on- and off-road," the judging panel said.

"It sets new standards in the pick-up category in respect to load capacity, payload, interior room, comfort, ergonomics and fuel consumption," they added.

The Amarok, which is set to launch in the UK in 2011, boasts the largest load dimensions in its class with a load area of 2.52 sq m.

It also has a maximum payload capacity of 1,057 kg and maximum towing limit of 2.8 tonnes.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the judges of the Fleet Van Awards 2010 had given their top award of Fleet Van Manufacturer of the Year to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.ADNFCR-2370-ID-800112445-ADNFCR
