The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has revealed the shortlist for the 2010 Automotive Innovation Award.
This award was created in September to recognise innovative products, technologies and ideas that have the potential to make a big difference in the automotive sector.
Included in the shortlist of six entries are Antonov Automotive Technologies Ltd's three-speed powershift transmission for electric vehicles and Gordon Murray Design Ltd's iStream.
"I'm delighted with the number and range of companies that entered SMMT's inaugural Automotive Innovation Award", said Paul Everitt, chief executive at the SMMT.
He went on to say that the process of creating a shortlist of entries was "challenging" as there were a number of candidates that demonstrated the potential to add value to the motor industry.
Earlier in the week, the SMMT urged motorists to fit their vehicles with winter tyres now that the weather is starting to get colder and wetter.
