Car owners should avoid driving in poor weather when possible

During periods of extremely cold weather, it might be best for car owners to avoid driving on the country's roads if they are able to, an expert has suggested.

According to AXA's Amanda Edwards, icy conditions and snow are among the weather conditions that people should aim to be aware of at the moment.

She stated: "Homes should be kept warm to prevent burst pipes, while driving in snow and ice should be avoided unless absolutely necessary."

A weekly rise of 23.8 per cent in motor-related claims has been seen by AXA, as the recent spell of very cold weather has caused problems for people.

Single vehicle accidents have also gone up by a figure of 85 per cent, the firm revealed.

Snow-covered kerbs are among the problems that drivers may need to keep an eye out for as the cold weather persists, Simon Douglas, the AA Insurance director, recently suggested.ADNFCR-2370-ID-800279914-ADNFCR
