Freezing temperatures make car parts more likely to fail

The freezing weather that the UK is currently experiencing does not just leave motorists uncomfortable, it can leave them out of pocket too.
Research conducted by Warranty Direct found that the cold temperatures can make some car parts 283 per cent more likely to fail.
The firm analysed data from its 50,000 live automotive policies to find that ignition coils are almost three times more likely to fail between December and February than between June and August.
Thermostats are 277 per cent more likely to break in winter than summer, at an average cost of £204.16.
Warranty Direct's Duncan McClure Fisher said: "This just goes to show that it pays to make the extra effort with car maintenance once the temperature turns chilly."
Earlier in the year, research conducted by Kwik-Fit revealed that 35 per cent of car insurance customers service their own vehicles.
However, 69 per cent of motorists said that they do not feel confident in servicing their own cars.
