Motorists should make improving their driving a new years resolution

Posted by Fiona Birkwood

When drawing up their list of new year's resolutions this week, motorists should add 'improve my driving skills', the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has claimed.

The institute does not stop there, as it claims that pedestrians, bikers and cyclists should also brush up their skills when it comes to road use.

Peter Rodger, chief examiner at the IAM, said: "Continuous personal development is often top of the mind at this time of year, but our skill as a driver, rider or cyclist can get taken for granted."

He went on to say that whichever way people travel, they should make doing it more safely and efficiently their goal for 2011.

The IAM highlighted research it published earlier this month, which found that nearly half of women and more than a third of men feel their confidence would be boosted by taking an advanced driving course.

This study also found that men are much more likely to take the driving seat when a couple, who both hold driving licenses, go out for the day.ADNFCR-2370-ID-800317050-ADNFCR
