The number of used cars that were bought on finance increased from November 2009 to the same month of last year, new figures have shown.

Compiled by the Finance and Leasing Association (FLA), the statistics show that 51,129 used cars were bought on finance through dealerships in November 2010, which is 16 per cent more than in November 2009.

As for new cars bought on finance through dealerships in November, the figure stands at 36,224 in 2010, which is six per cent less than in the same month of 2009.

Paul Harrison, head of motor finance at the FLA, said: "The car market, following the previous government's scrappage scheme, is returning to business as usual."

"Savvy consumers are seeking used cars from dealerships to get value for money," he added.

Earlier this month, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders revealed that 2,030,846 new vehicles were registered in the UK last year. ADNFCR-2370-ID-800347122-ADNFCR
