FairFuelUK campaign gains supporters

A campaign to get the government to scrap plans to increase fuel duty above inflation levels on April 1st is gaining more and more supporters, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) has claimed.
It is predicted that fuel duty will rise by between three and five pence per litre on this date.
Such an increase would cost the road haulage industry a minimum of £375 million this year.
The FairFuelUK campaign now has the support of over 8,000 petitioners, ranging from hauliers, business owners, motorists and the general public.
James Hookham, managing director of policy at the FTA, said: "Rocketing fuel prices have such a huge impact on businesses and motorists, but it is within the government's gift to loosen the noose from around road users' necks and give us all some breathing space."
Earlier in the month, the Institute of Advanced Motorists claimed that people can reduce their fuel costs by driving in a steady and controlled manner.
