Road ice-eliminator trialled in Scotland

A trial of a liquid solution that clears roads of ice has been successfully completed in Scotland.
The material was tested on hard-packed snow and ice on a road in Aberdeenshire.
Tests suggest that it can clear roads when temperatures reach up to minus 20 degrees, when normal salt is not as effective.
Keith Brown, transport minister, said that it was "encouraging" that the results of the recent trial were positive.
"Last December we faced an unprecedented situation with the coldest weather for 100 years and it's right we continue to explore ways of continually improving our capacity to respond to severe weather," he added.
Mr Brown went on to say that he has been working to discover new ways of keeping the country's transport network open and improving the information that is available to road users.
A study recently conducted by GEM Motoring Assist revealed that 73 per cent of motorists have taken positive action to prepare their vehicles should winter weather conditions return.
