Motorists can reduce fuel costs in many ways

There are a number of things that people can do to reduce the amount of money that they spend on fuel, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has claimed.
One of the first things that motorists could do at this time of year – when temperatures can be below zero on a morning – is to de-ice windows with a spray or scraper before starting the engine.
This means that people spend less time sitting in their cars on their driveways wasting fuel.
The IAM also recommended keeping the inside of the front and rear windscreens clean as this prevents them from misting up as easily, removing the need to turn the heater or air conditioning on.
Neil Greig, IAM director of policy and research, said: "Competitive car manufacturers and a more efficient garage trade have delivered lower overall motoring costs but these gains are being all but erased by higher fuel and insurance costs."
Last month, AA Driving School claimed that motorists can reduce their fuel bills by £1,000 a year by doing things such as using the right specification of engine oil.

There was so much ice on my car this morning that I felt compelled to let my heat run for a bit–even though I knew I shouldn’t. These are good tips though and I’ll try to follow them from now on.
