Removing excess weight from cars reduces fuel costs

People can reduce their fuel costs by removing excess objects from their vehicles, GEM Motoring Assist has claimed.
The organisation said that people should make sure that they only carry essential items in their car boots and remove their roof racks if they are not in use.
It also recommends avoiding travel at rush hour, as sitting in queues of traffic uses up a great amount of fuel.
David Williams, chief executive officer of GEM Motoring Assist, said: "There are … some steps that the everyday motorist can be taking to be as fuel efficient as possible and ensure they are getting every penny's worth."
He went on to say that many people do not realise how much money simple changes can save.
These recommendations come as April 1st, when fuel duty is set to increase further, draws ever closer.
Motoring aficionado Quentin Willson is to take a campaign against increases in fuel to the heart of the UK government on Tuesday February 8th.
