SMMT: 128,022 cars registered in UK in January

Some 128,022 new cars were registered in the UK in January, new figures have shown.
This is 11.48 per cent fewer than the 144,623 that were registered in the nation in the same month of last year, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) statistics also reveal.
In England, 108,041 were registered last month, compared to 121,472 in January 2010.
Scotland saw the second highest number of registrations in the UK last month with 9,694, compared to 11,135 the previous year.
Northern Ireland was next, with 5,989 registered in the country in January, compared to 7,196 in January 2010.
Wales saw the lowest number of registrations for January at 4,298, which is 10.83 fewer than the 4,820 that were registered in January 2010.
In December, a total of 107,729 cars were registered in England and the most popular vehicle was the Vauxhall Astra followed by the Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Fiesta.
