FairFuelUK campaign takes message to parliament

Posted by Fiona Birkwood

The FairFuelUK campaign took its message to parliament yesterday (February 8th), demanding that the government scraps plans to increase fuel duty on April 1st.

Motoring journalist Quentin Willson and a delegation comprising members of the Freight Transport Association, the Road Haulage Association and the RAC unveiled a 20ft banner outside the Treasury.

This banner demanded "a fair deal on fuel now!" and displayed an image of a truck divided into sections to show how much of the cost of fuel was made up by duty.

Willson handed a letter to the chancellor of the Exchequer urging him to announce measures to stabilise the cost of fuel.

"Judging by the media presence and cross-party political support evident today, the momentum is really gathering as are the number of signatories to our petition – over 47,000 so far," said Willson.

Earlier this month, GEM Motoring Assist claimed that people can reduce their fuel costs by removing excess objects from their vehicles. ADNFCR-2370-ID-800395624-ADNFCR
