Govts pothole repair funding is a welcome step

Plans unveiled by the coalition government to deal with the problem of potholes have been given the backing of one organisation.
In order to combat winter-related road damage, ministers recently confirmed that an extra sum of £100 million is to be made available to English councils.
The Fuelcard Company responded positively to this measure, with the group's head of marketing, Colin Peters, stating that major road deterioration has been experienced in recent times.
Highlighting the scale of the country's problems, he stated: "Two tough winters have caused up to 50 per cent deterioration of UK roads with an estimated one pothole every 120 yards."
However, Mr Peters did query why action is only now being taken to carry out repair work.
Potholes affect people's driving experiences on a daily basis, the country's transport secretary Philip Hammond commented following the funding announcement earlier this week, with millions of people potentially being impacted by them.
