Fuel duty would be most popular tax to scrap

Fuel duty is the form of taxation which people in the UK are keenest to get rid of, new survey results have suggested.

Unbiased.co.uk research has shown that 20 per cent of those included in its study would like to see the government scrap this tax above all others.

Meanwhile, car or road tax was cited by four per cent as being the tax they are most in favour of having abolished.

The website's chief executive, Karen Barrett, noted that high fuel costs may be annoying the country's drivers at present.

She stated: "In reality we all know that getting rid of fuel duty is … very unlikely to ever happen, but there [are] other things we can do to make a real impact on the amount of tax we are liable to pay."
