Motorists could be badly affected by Budget

Announcements in next week's Budget could have a negative affect on motorists, one commentator has suggested.
Independent consumer motoring website honestjohn.co.uk fears that families could be the worst hit of all.
Back in 2008, changes to Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) were put on hold, but Chancellor George Osborne may well backtrack on this in the new Budget.
Dan Harrison, editor of honestjohn.co.uk, said that VED earnings for the Treasury have been diminishing as more and more motorists trade their vehicles in for low-emission models.
"This is bad news for the government's tax coffers, so we're expecting a rise in road tax that will hit families hard," he added.
Mr Harrison went on to say that this could make what has "already become a phenomenally expensive year for motorists, even more difficult".
Last month, a seminar hosted by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents entitled Road Safety in a Time of Reduced Public Spending was held to discuss the possible outcomes of the Budget.
