Driver errors are behind the top three causes of serious crashes

Errors made by drivers and bikers are behind the top three causes of fatal and serious crashes on the UK's roads, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has claimed.
Research conducted by the institute found that factors such as failing to look properly and losing control caused for 65.3 per cent of fatal accidents.
Actions like these were also behind 61.8 per cent of serious and 68.6 per cent of slight accidents.
Illegal or unwise judgements, such as speeding or tailgating, caused another 31.4 per cent of accidents.
Alcohol was found to be the cause of ten per cent of fatal road accidents.
IAM chief executive Simon Best said: "What is obvious from the top three rankings is that many accidents could be prevented by drivers simply changing their behaviour, as well as gaining more experience."
Last month, IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger advised motorists that they can increase their safety by checking that their headrests are high as the top of their head and as close to the back of it as possible.

I read that Google is researching cars that can drive themselves; sounds like a good idea since driver error is responsible in the future. Maybe in the future we will all drive in cars that drive for us…? I think there are some drivers out there who simply do not want to change their behavior even though the know it is reckless.
