British roads with worst potholes revealed

Posted by Susannah Mayers

Britain's most pothole-ridden roads have been revealed, with the B6343 near Morpeth and Fieldhead Lane, close to Holme, being named the worst.

These two stretches of carriageway were pinpointed by motorists responding to a Warranty Direct survey.

A lack of long-term funding for pothole repairs, coupled with the recent harsh winters, has exacerbated the problem massively, according to the company, which runs the potholes.co.uk campaign website.

The B6343 in Northumberland has "a huge array of potholes east of Mitford", according to one of the users who nominated the road, while Fieldhead Lane in West Yorkshire was said to be "like an off-road assault course" by another user.

Almost nine in ten roads which received nominations were local ones, rather than motorways or A or B carriageways.

Duncan McClure Fisher, managing director of Warranty Direct, said the worst potholed roads awards could be given to "tens if not hundreds of stretches of road" around the country, due to the high levels of bad deterioration.

Recent figures released by the Association of British Insurers, published by Admiral, revealed that 405,000 rear-end bumps take place every year.

Mr McClure Fisher said the prevalence of potholes on the roads has led to a rise in the number of axle and suspension claims by motorists.ADNFCR-2370-ID-800552698-ADNFCR

The 5 freeway in Los Angeles also has some pretty bad potholes or dips/bumps on the road. I think they can cause accidents if the driver isn’t familiar with the bumps; it could loose someone to lose control of their car if they are driving fast. Pretty dangerous.
