Accidents on 15 UK roads cut dramatically

The number of accidents occurring on 15 of the UK's roads has been cut thanks to a range of improvements that have been made to them.
These improvements included adding or altering signing, markings and the design and layout of junctions.
Also, the speed limits on the roads were reviewed and the use of speed enforcement was introduced.
Further improvements included resurfacing with high-friction, anti-skid treatments on bends and the addition of central safety barriers.
These measures have helped to reduce the number of accidents per year by 62 per cent from 494 to 190.
It is thought that this will help to make savings of over £50 million annually to the emergency services, the NHS, local authority care, businesses and families.
Earlier this month, figures from the Association of British Insurers published by insurer Admiral revealed that some 405,000 rear-end bumps take place on the UK's roads each year.
